Description

Part of Futura's Futuraland universe, FUTURALAND FL-006 is a monumental figure realised in mirror-polished stainless steel. Standing 172 cm, it carries the artist's Pointman lineage into a fully three-dimensional, larger-than-life sculpture -- the elongated pointed head, articulated limbs and taloned hands rendered as continuous reflective volumes. The high-polish surface dissolves the form into its surroundings, so the work reads differently from every angle. A large-scale counterpart to the smaller FL-006 editions, it is among the most significant pieces in the collection. The FL-006 at this scale was conceived as the alien launch crew for FUTURALAND, Futura's installation with AllRightsReserved at the Landmark in Hong Kong, 3 to 16 June 2021, where a group of them surrounded a roughly six-metre X-6000 rocket. It was described at the time as the artist's largest installation to date.

Provenance

Purchased 1 July 2026. Acquired by private sale through Sotheby's (confidential). Polished stainless steel, 172 x 99 x 61.5 cm, executed 2021. Incised with the artist's signature. Condition per Sotheby's report: very good overall -- minor wear to some tips, most notably on the leg; accretions to the proper left leg from packing material; isolated handling marks on close inspection; a faint scratch to the lower back. Exhibition context: the monumental FL-006 was made as the launch crew for FUTURALAND, Futura x AllRightsReserved, Landmark, Hong Kong, 3 to 16 June 2021. Whether this particular cast is one of the figures shown at the Landmark, or a further cast of the same model, is not yet established and should be confirmed against the Sotheby's documentation. Edition size unconfirmed. Fuller provenance to follow.

FUTURALAND
Futura x AllRightsReserved · Landmark, Hong Kong · 3–16 June 2021

An X-6000 rocket of roughly six metres surrounded by an FL-006 launch crew, described at the time as the artist’s largest installation to date. Four works in this collection come out of that one project: the monumental figure, the two carbon fibre editions derived from it, and the shelf-scale set of the whole tableau.
